Yes!
It’s all for you!

An ECU with voice activation was set in place,
so you can connect with family,
so you can talk with friends,
so you can leave or go home whenever you please.

There is no place you will not exceed or succeed.
With independence in your horizon you will exceed here and there.
You will exceed at home. You will succeed at School.
You are determined, and kid you have flare.

At the break of dawn,
the school awaits its 8th grade student, Shawn!
There are math skills to accomplish.
There are writing assignments to finish.
And the magical smile and conversations you share
make you a star with the adults and your peers everywhere.

What the school did next was quite a rarity.
For them, there where no answers; they needed clarity.

Open to trying new things,
your teachers and paraprofessionals made a commitment.
They welcomed Ann with all her educational technology knowledge
and try before you buy it equipment.

To guide the pen across your paper,
the Writing Bird holds your pen and acts as a hand rest.
To access choices with the click of a mouse,
use your Classroom Suite and do your best.

We respect your desire to be much like your peers.
Today’s your chance, grab the wheel and steer.
The goal is to keep you as independent as possible,
For where there’s a will there’s a way, and kid it’s doable.

From low-tech to high-tech,
assistive technology can be quite handy.
At home or school
everything should be near dandy.
Though sometimes it’s not,
not at all close to dandy,
and those who wish to help
cannot sugar coat it like candy.
But you’ll make it you see with strength and persistence,
and your great smile will definitely come in handy.

You will become most familiar with your technology.
And on and on, from home to school, you will wheel confidently.
You may even learn a few tricks that will make life easier.
You will progress through it all with little difficulty.
As you listen to others and share your story,
always celebrate life cheerfully.
Remember your past and embrace your future,
as you already know time will fly by quickly.
So far, your triumphs your feats, they’re quite the opposite of something small.
What’s about to take its place is most splendid of all.

KID, YOU’LL BE INDEPENDENT!

So ...
Be your last name Scottish or Irish, common or not,
or long or short, or mispronounced a lot,
our time has come to say goodbye.
As the winter fades and the days get hot,
one thing’s for certain.
You will not be forgot.
